As the city rebuilds house after house is slowly reclaimed.  Sometimes the destruction was to severe that the original abode needed to be abolished and the debris completely removed from the premises.  Then work began anew to rebuild.  These efforts were hard work but showed our city’s soul.  Our commitment to not only rebuild our homes but the city’s spirit and even our very lives.

As each new dwelling is moved back into habitable status we should all rejoice.  Our city is coming back and we will survive.  When it’s your neighbors, the celebration takes on an even greater meaning.  Plan a housewarming party.  Simple housewarming gifts even if it’s just a bottle of wine or a loaf of French bread, or homemade pralines or a simple bouquet of flowers are all inexpensive gifts that can make your neighbor’s celebration just a bit sweeter.

As gas prices rise and vacation days decrease, the long trips to the Grand Canyon are beyond the reach of many professionals. Many young professionals simply do not have the time, money or even inclination to go on long vacations, so now “staycations” have become more and more the norm.

Staycations present the challenge of what to do, and how to do as little as possible.
The most common activity is to catch up on that precious sleep lost when working; a week without alarm clocks can be refreshing by itself. If one is the less active type, simply catching up on movies and televisions shows often missed. With entire seasons of some television shows on DVD, a person could simply watch television shows and sleep in. Aided by many home delivery food options, a person could choose to never leave his or her house for a vacation.

For those who are more active, or at least don’t love television, there are parks, nature preserves and playgrounds that are both free and easily accessible. Every city has some kind of tourist attraction that locals will often skip over that can be a great target for those staying home for vacation. These hidden treasures can be great fun and they can show that staying home doesn’t have to mean a boring vacation.
